The Titanic 100 Years On
It’s been 100 years since the Titanic sank and there have been many versions of the event documented on film. However, to mark the turning of the Titanic’s Centenary, The History Press has opened a Twitter account focusing on the days leading up to its maiden (and only) voyage. The idea behind the Twitter account is to document in ‘real time’ what would have happened if Twitter existed in 1912 – clearly as the Titanic didn’t actually set sail until the 10th April 1912 the Tweets at this current time consist of genuine facts about the boat.
The Twitter account is currently just shy of 12,000 followers (aboard Titanic were 2,223 people), an amazing feat for an account which has only Tweeted nine times. The account uses hashtags such as #captain, #crew and #engineering to paint an image of where the updates are coming from.

12,000 are now eagerly awaiting Titanic’s voyage, and when the ship casts off next month we’ll eagerly await the Tweet’s covering the experiences of those who were on board the ship 100 years ago.
As well as the Twitter account, The History Press are also launching an app which will incorporate the history of the Titanic – including blueprints, biographies and photographs.
