One Click Applications with LinkedIn button
Apply for jobs using LinkedIn button
Employers and job sites can now include an ‘Apply with LinkedIn’ plug-in button in their job listings which will encourage users to submit their profile rather than filling in the traditional application form.
Benefits for the company:
1. They can customize the button and include up to three questions
2. A covering letter can be asked for and data can be tracked
3. They get a rounded view of the candidate, how they interact on public platforms, what articles they share, work history and recommendations
Benefits for the candidate:
1. They can update their profile in real time
2. Candidates connections already within the company will be displayed so they can ask for a recommendation or referral
3. All their ‘Apply With LinkedIn’ job applications will be saved so the user can keep a record of all jobs they have applied for
The Google Directory which used the Open Directory Project, DMOZ, has now been closed. Users who go to the Google Directory page are shown the message ‘We believe that Web Search is the fastest way to find the information you need on the web.’ They are redirected to the dmoz.org page meaning that Google are no longer indexing a copy of DMOZ which they previously used to rank entries by popularity and relevance. This may mean a decrease in the number of webmasters who submit their link to the directory now that the value of having the Google connection has finished.
Firefox no longer to use Google Toolbar
Google will also be halting support for the Google Search Bar within Mozilla’s Firefox. The long-standing relationship between Mozilla and Google to have tools such as in-site search, easy access to bookmarks, bookmark sharing, instant page translation will no longer be available on versions past 4. This is seen as a move by Google to encourage users to switch to using Chrome instead. Users will now need to use third party plug-ins to continue running outdated versions of the Google Tool Bar in Firefox.
Google Adwords Express Launches
Google re-launched Google Boost as Adwords Express this week so small businesses can now create auto-generated search advertising campaigns in Adwords. Google will manage the ad campaigns for local businesses deciding which local service searches or local products will trigger the ads. The advertiser will feature in the regular ad space as well as in Google places as a blue pin, rather than the traditional red pin for non advertisers. The move has been criticised as merely a revenue maker for Google, but the campaign boasts a 5 minute set-up and small businesses with a lack of search knowledge can appear without having to optimise and run the campaign.
