Google Dropping Adwords Support For Agencies

Last week it was announced that Google’s Account Management support would stop in 2011. This is said to be in US & UK as well as some other countries.  It has come across as part of a cost cutting exercise however Google have said that “Overall, we’ve increased our investment in agencies; there are more dedicated agency leads focused on strategic partnerships with agencies, and working with agencies to drive the industry forward”

So what does this mean for agencies? In short, some agencies will still have reps and in some cases a whole specialist team but other smaller agencies will lose reps but have telephone and improved online support.

Apple’s iAD, Exciting But Too Expensive

The highly anticipated launch of Apple’s first ad network iAD is arguably one of the biggest developments in the mobile ad industry. With iAD campaigns  Apple will let brands target customers by their iTunes account activity and device. Along with this campaigns will have the targeting similar to paid search but with the interactivity of display.

The issue at the moment is not whether this will be great for the industry but more about price. At the moment the cost of an iAD campaign will be apparantly cost approx £600,000 compared to £10,000 for a standard mobile ad network. IAD currently are not offering any agency discount and does not allow for third party tracking of activity. We’ll just have to trust Apple!
